RESUMEN

This qualitative study, grounded in theory, employed inductive coding for analysis, focusing on menstrual health among urban women aged 10-25. The research aims to explore the menstrual health status, practices, and beliefs of participants. The research delves into the impact of recent government initiatives on menstrual health and assesses the role of urbanization in shaping evolving menstrual health practices among young girls. Employing in-depth qualitative methods such as interviews and focus group discussions, the study seeks a comprehensive understanding of participants' experiences and perceptions related to menstrual health. The dynamics of women's menstrual experiences are significantly influenced by urbanization, heightened exposure to social media, evolving lifestyles, and government initiatives like the distribution of menstrual products in schools and the enhancement of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facilities in government institutions. Positive shifts have been observed, including reduced restrictions on menstruating individuals, enhanced access to affordable hygiene products, and improved disposal facilitated by municipal garbage collection services. However, notable gaps persist in basic knowledge about menstruation, hygienic practices, effective interpersonal communication with schoolteachers or community health care workers, and compliance with government programs promoting weekly iron-folic acid supplementation and biannual Albendazole intake, calling for substantial improvement.

Poor solubility remains a major challenge for pharmaceutical industry, which is now considered to be an area of prime importance in the field of biomedical research. Approximately 40% new molecular entities (NMEs) synthesized in pharmaceutical R with advanced combinatorial chemistry and computer aided drug designing (CADD) approaches suffer from poor solubility and bioavailability related issues. Apart from these presence of intestinal tight junctional epithelial cells, transporters and enzymatic barriers further reduces the oral absorption of drugs. Implication of the novel lipid based nanocarriers and nanomaterials like dendrimers and carbon nanotubes as a delivery system can effectively enhance the oral bioavailability of drugs by breaching the barriers, and resolve all critics related to solubility and bioavailability. Thus prime objectives of this review are to give in-depth knowledge and critical appraisal on the barriers for poor oral bioavailability of drugs, along with various novel formulation approaches used for bioavailability enhancement such as lipid based formulations, nanosizing techniques, complexation with polymers and nanomaterials like dendrimers, carbon nanotubes, and penetration enhancers. Also it gives a brief account on in vitro, in vivo screening methods used for assessment of oral bioavailability, and regulatory considerations for the approval.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: 1) Assess general health condition and anthropological parameters of the working women. 2) Identify prevalence of Type-II Diabetes among them. 3) Assess risk factors associated with development of diabetes. 4) Educate them about Life Style Modifications. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross sectional study was carried out in six educational institutes. A total of 100 working women were selected as study population. During the two-month study period, Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS) was estimated to identify the diabetics and the Impaired Glucose Tolerance (IGT). Information from the study population was collected through pre-tested questionnaire using several anthropometric measurements. RESULTS: Out of 100 women, 24 were having FBS compatible with IGT or diabetes. The incidence was highest in 46 to 55 yr age group. 75% of women with diabetes or IGT were in higher income group. Body Mass Index was more than 25 kg/m(2) in maximum (75%) women having diabetes or IGT. 92% women with diabetes or IGT had their Waist Hip Ratio >/=0.85. Moreover, orientation towards healthy life style modification to control diabetes and its prevention was poor among the study population. CONCLUSION: Prevalence of diabetes and IGT was higher among urban working women and is increasing with increase in age. Obesity plays a major role in development of Type 2 diabetes. Several long- and short-term steps should be taken for promotion of healthy life style modifications to prevent diabetes and emergence of its complications.
